Today's converged networks require increased availability and reliability. This has created a need for higher density power protection systems that adapt to mixed load voltages and plug types, while remaining easy to install and maintain.

New IT Technologies, such as VoIP and PoE, have greatly increased power demands. Unfortunately, as these requirements have risen, the amount of space available for your protected equipment and related power support systems has not.
 


The Liebert Solution

Liebert GXT3 UPS meets the need for higher power capacities in small spaces. This true on-line double conversion

UPS system is available in 5kVA-10kVA models, and features integrated maintenance bypass, as well as optional extended battery runtime.

Add support - Emerson Network Power Service - and it all equals greater power assurance and reliability.

Designed for use in either rack or tower configurations, all units offer the smallest available solutions for these power capacities - the 5 and 6kVA model at 230V output in 5U size, or the 10kVA unit 230V output in 6U package.

To help meet the need for choosing a single supplier for global applications, 120/208V 50/60 Hz models are offered with UL markings.



Communications for Power Monitoring and Control

Liebert GXT3 UPS offers a variety of communications options to provide the monitoring and control capabilities demanded by today's network computing systems. Operation can be monitored using:Liebert IntelliSlot Web Card provides SNMP and web-based monitoring and control of your UPS.

    • The versatile unit installs in either configuration, and includes a rotating LED display panel that conforms to the desired orientation.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions


What is Liebert GXT3? 
  • Liebert GXT3 is the latest version of On-Line UPS for servers and networking devices. It replaces the existing Liebert GXT2. Liebert GXT3 is a global product available in 120V and 230V. It is designed by Emerson Network Power China Xian and manufactured in Emerson’s Mian Yang (Xichun province) factory.

How is Liebert GXT3 different from Liebert GXT2?

  • Liebert GXT3 has an output power factor of 0.9 (0.8 for 5/6KVA) while Liebert GXT2 has PF 0.7. Liebert GXT3 has faster recharge time than Liebert GXT2. It has higher efficiency than Liebert GXT2. Liebert GXT3 uses USB port while Liebert GXT2 uses RS232.

How does a UPS with Higher Power Factor benefit users?

  • A UPS is rated both in VA and Watts. Exceeding VA or Watts will cause the UPS to overload. Modern servers and networking devices are equipped with Power Factor Corrected (PFC) power supply, whose pf is as high as 0.98. It means if power supply is rated at 1000VA, it is also rated at 980W. A UPS with 10000VA/9000Watts can support 9 such devices. A UPS with 10000VA/7000Watts can only support 7 such devices.

Why is Liebert GXT3 5/6 kVA’s PF 0.8 and not 0.9?

  • Higher output power requires higher input current. Liebert GXT2 4.5/6KVA models requires 32A input breaker. Liebert GXT3 5/6KVA with PF0.8 uses the same 32A input breaker. Liebert GXT3 5/6KVA would have required 50A input breaker should it use PF0.9. It may introduce great inconvenience to users who upgrade from Liebert GXT2.

Can Liebert GXT3 have additional USB or RS232 ports?

  • No. Liebert GXT3 has one (1) USB, (1) any mode shutdown, (1) battery mode shutdown, on battery /low battery relays, and one (1) Liebert Intellislot out-of-box. There is no optional card with ports.

Is Liebert IS-WEBCARD Compatible with Liebert GXT3?

  • Yes

Does Liebert GXT3 5-10kVA come with a Micropod?

  • Yes

Can Battery Cabinets for Liebert GXT2 be used with Liebert GXT3?

  • No. Battery cabinets for Liebert GXT2 and GXT3 are NOT interchangeable. We are developing a cable, which can be used for Liebert GXT3 UPS and GXT2 battery cabinet, and vice versa. This will be made available soon.

What is the warranty period of Liebert GXT3?

  • Standard micro UPS warranty (usually 2 years) applies.

Six Questions to Ask When Implementing a Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) Solution

Data center managers have been challenged to maintain or increase IT availability, server utilization and efficiency in the face of rising costs and demands. One strategy to help address these challenges is virtualization, which increases server utilization and enables greater energy efficiency.

But virtualization also makes it more difficult to predict the demand on physical systems at any given time. As a result of the uncertainty in physical system demand, the data center manager is compelled to reserve a resource buffer against overload at peak capacity.

A holistic DCIM approach provides new insights into the relationships between facilities and IT infrastructure components, enabling data center managers to better optimize their data center resource consumption.

These are the questions Emerson Network Power recommends data center managers ask before deploying a DCIM solution:

1. What are the critical infrastructure assets in my data center and what are their respective mission interdependencies? An inventory repository can provide the data center manager with a “reality check” of today’s high-value assets, as well as context in the data center plan for tomorrow. This forward-looking insight gives a continual business-oriented view into these critical assets allowing better return-on-investment (ROI) on assets as well as freeing up data center budget for other compelling priorities—a top of mind concern for data center managers.

2. If asked by my management, could I quickly retrieve a comprehensive monitoring and analysis report of all the assets in my data center, and would this report identify bottlenecks? An effective DCIM solution should monitor all space, power and cooling attributes within the data center environment. To avoid an environmental-based operational failure, the DCIM solution should provide reports that enable the data center manager to take proactive action. The ability to report these data center conditions should be available on-demand to the data center manager.

3. Can my data center manage day-to-day workloads with flexibility while servicing on-demand needs as they arrive for my company? The DCIM solution should provide process workflow that can perform:

  • Scenario development—the ability to model changes before they go into production,
  • Nested processes that list steps that must be completed before an action is approved,
  • Measurement against service level agreements (SLAs), which are standard or custom metrics for measuring success, and 
  • The ability to provision into underutilized space, power and cooling capacity. This function should recommend optimal placement for devices based on their unique requirements and the existing load/capacity in the infrastructure.

4. Does this DCIM solution provide the trend analysis and intelligence needed for my team to deliver a comprehensive capacity management plan? To gain control of the current and future usage of data center resources, DCIM solutions should provide data center managers with insight into: 

  • Projection pipelines—what projects are in various stages of approval and what the impact will be on the infrastructure, and 
  • Trending for current and projected utilization (curves based on historical usage). For example, data center management should be able to tell when capacity or cooling will run out, based on utilization trends.

5. What intuitive web-based executive summary and planning tools are provided in the solution? DCIM solutions should provide configurable web-based dashboards and analytics standard within the product. Automating the operational intelligence gathering and reporting through a comprehensive web-based dashboard enables an executive summary that becomes the single source of truth into DCIM and planning. 

6. Will the DCIM solution align with IT and business services? Aligning IT service to address business objectives and needs is paramount. Any DCIM solution must enable data center management to align their respective resource consumption with their current ITSM, ITIL and BSM strategies.
