Ericsson's Optical Transport portfolio is a world leading family of next generation transport  products, designed with the most demanding of customer applications in mind. Flexibility (its ability to adapt to a myriad of applications, not least evolution to packet networking and fixed mobile convergence) and innovation (technologies such as carrier grade data, ASTN, OTN and multireach WDM have built upon our heritage as a pioneer in SDH and WDM).


Product range overview

The current trends toward flexible and converged solutions are driving operators to optimize the service implementation, focus on IP and broadband technologies, and minimize complexity in network planning when creating new services.

Fixed and mobile broadband are complementary technologies that allow operators to use existing infrastructure and business processes as a cost-effective path to an all-IP service environment and network convergence.

Ericsson OMS Optical Networks product family provides solutions to efficiently address fixed mobile convergence, packet-based services, and “all-IP” services including high-speed connectivity.

To minimize capital expenditure and operational expenditure in particular, the Optical Transport Portfolio offers value-added solutions in each transport layer: evolving the SDH network to a packet network; integrating router networks with transport networks; and enabling optimized packet optical transport networks.

There are clear roles for each layer in the packet network; “all-IP” networks need a lot more than just IP.

Using the Optical Networks portfolio, you can create solutions to expand new services and upgrade existing infrastructures by delivering IP services with IP over OTN/DWDM solutions (combining routers and optical transports); IP over packet transport solutions (combining router and packet transport solutions); and packet transport solution over SDH, upgrading SDH infrastructure with cost-effective layer 2 aggregation and switching (EoS – Ethernet over SDH advanced layer 2 switching).

Product description overview

The Ericsson OMS 3200 family consists of the OMS 3240 (80Gbit/s), OMS 3250 (320Gbit/s) and the OMS 3260 for expanding installations to 960Gbit/s.

The latest product in the range is the high-density OMS 3255, which adds support for 40Gbit/s per slot interfaces and blades whilst retaining a high degree of commonality with the current products.

A single, highly optimized and flexible realization enables MHL 3000 product family to easily scale from cost-efficient edge configurations to high-performing core solutions, delivering any service over any network at any rate.

The MHL 3000 product family can be configured in any number of physical and logical network configurations – linear, ring and mesh – whilst its associated in-service scaling capability allows phased network builds and/or other changes in configuration to be made, in line with evolving business demands.

The MHL 3000 offers the following networks solutions:
 
The MHL 3000 C/DWDM passive solution delivers cost-efficient services at metro edge, business park and access networks with a CWDM configuration scalable to DWDM @ 2.5G/10G.

The higher capacity of 1.6Tb over distances and metro regional distances (500km) is featured by the MHL 3000 Metro DWDM OADM solution in linear, ring and meshed topology. This solution offers the minimum cost per service where low network re-configurability is needed.

The MHL 3000 Metro DWDM ROADM solution enhances network flexibility over regional, metro-core applications. Two ways or scalable multiways 40 channels ROADM (WSS) functionalities enable remote service provisioning and rerouting. Complete and full “plug and play” operation is further extended by GMPLS/ASON Control plane, which complements 1+1 OSNCP protection for traffic restoration.

The MHL 3000 Multi-Reach Core DWDM solution further increases the capacity to 3.2Tb/s capacity over a 4000km reach. Scalable multiways 80 channels ROADM (WSS) @2.5G/10G/40G rate enables agile meshed networking. The modular directionless and colorless functionalities further reduces the total cost of ownership, while as in Metro ROADM solution, the GMPLS/ASON Control plane enhances network resiliency with maximum resource optimization.

The MHL 3000 Extended Single span solution features submarine and terrestrial single span, repeater-free application, over more than 380km.

The MHL 3000 provides protocol independent transport of SDH/SONET, Ethernet and SAN services, and Video ranging from 155Mbit/s to 40Gbit/s.

Product description overview


OMS 2400 is positioned as a packet transport node based on Ethernet aggregation and switching for use in metropolitan networks, although its flexibility and scalability (including photonic integration) makes it also suited for core network applications. OMS 2400 enables the mixed delivery of native Ethernet client signals as well as legacy TDM traffic.

Ericsson SPO 1400 Series














The Ericsson SPO (OMS) 1400 is a family of multi-service and packet optical transport solutions for Metro Access networks providing carrier class Ethernet and TDM services.


Product description overview

The SPO 1400 family can inter-work with core networks based on SDH, Ethernet or IP/MPLS. It is ideal for application in numerous environments ranging from high-capacity customer sites, fixed or mobile Radio Access Networks (RAN) backhauling or as a grooming device in the Metro Network. The product offers an ideal migration path towards a packet-based infrastructure enabling a fixed mobile convergent network.

The SPO 1400 can deliver a flexible mix of voice and high-speed data services. Its small and compact shelf can accommodate six interchangeable traffic modules for delivery of business and residential Ethernet services such as Voice over IP/VoIP, IPTV, and internet surfing. For business customers it allows for stringent Service Level Agreements.

Product description overview

The OMS 800 facilitates the migration to new Ethernet and packet-based services and new revenue streams with rapid payback on investment.

OMS 800 is typically used on the customer’s premises (or grounds) for delivery of mixed business services, but is also often applied to the mobile/radio access network for 2G or 3G.

The product offers great flexibility and scalability from such a small platform with STM-1 to 16 aggregate options, and a wide range of high-density Ethernet, PDH/SDH & WDM interface options.

The Portfolio consists of three key product-families:

  • OMS 846 is optimized for STM-1 configurations which require a high number of E1s in 1U form factor (up to 16) with a low number of Fast Ethernet interfaces (4x) or Gigabit Ethernet (1x)

With the industry’s largest switching capacity, the SEA platforms are ideal for the most advanced mobile and fixed broadband deployments, ensuring the highest quality video and robust real-time application support.

The SEA is designed to also be a key transport network element of the next-generation mobile infrastructure. With the addition of pseudowire technology, the SEA platforms transport 2G (TDM), 3G (ATM) and 4G (IP) services with a new level of efficiency.

Benefits

Both the SEA 10 and SEA 20 support the largest switching capacities in its class. The SEA 10 supports a switching capacity of 36 Gbps and the SEA 20 supports a massive 120 Gbps.

The goal of ON-Planner is to maximize both the quality of service and the network  resources.  ON-Planner is the optimum tool for planning and simulating networks that  requires an automated control plane (ASTN/ASON/GMPLS), or have challenges on Optical design (photonic networks), or demands a complex interaction among services and network resources (data network).

ON-Planner offer the flexibility of manage a multi-layer’s transport and provides the benefits of adopting Traffic Engineering’s policies to emulate all network that demands a control plane to optimise the resource utilization.
