Ericsson Radio Dot System


Ericsson Radio Dot System is re-defining the small-cell market with scalable functionality, simple installation, and integration with outdoor networks.

The new Radio Dot System is designed to extend that mobile broadband capacity, both 3G and LTE, into enterprise buildings and public venues. The visible element of the Ericsson Radio Dot System, known as the Dot, is sleek and compact, to blend in with any indoor environment.


it's more than an antenna but less than a femtocell as it relies on an in-building base station to process the signalling, but takes care of the radio stack itself. With weighing only 300g the Dot is styled to disappear into the office décor. Using Ethernet Cat 5, 6, or 7 for the last few metres should make installation easier, however it is recommended to use dedicated cables rather than sharing the office infrastructure.

Indoor environments pose special challenges for service providers. Current indoor solutions present complexity, scalability and service continuity limitations that can restrict the user experience. Distributed Antenna System (DAS) are built mainly for voice coverage in very large buildings and venues and are expensive to upgrade to meet the growing capacity demands of mobile data.

The Ericsson Radio Dot System delivers seamless app coverage to the operator’s consumer and business customers in the broadest range of in-building deployment scenarios, including the under served, high growth, medium-to-large building and venue category.


At the other end of the spectrum, most residential and small business or venue requirements are addressed by the outside-in effect of the outdoor macro or micro. As building size increases along with the numbers of highly mobile users, a new solution needs to provide coverage scalability, interference and handover capabilities.

The Ericsson Radio Dot System leverages the same industry-leading features found in Ericsson's macro base station, including Carrier Aggregation and Combined Cell for WCDMA and LTE. Deployments and upgrades are simple, addressing growing capacity and coverage requirements.

The user experience is consistent wherever they go and the indoor network evolves in lockstep with the outdoor network. Ericsson Radio Dot System also supports integration with Ericsson's carrier Wi-Fi portfolio enabling features such as real-time traffic steering to ensure the best user experience across both Wi-Fi and 3GPP networks.

Ericsson Radio Dot System is compact and offers flexible mounting. It introduces a revolutionary antenna element, or 'Dot', which delivers mobile broadband access to users. Dots are connected and powered via standard internet LAN cables (Category 5/6/7) to indoor radio units that link to a base station.
